Abstract
At the present stage, there exist no recommended procedures in the Czech Republic. Nevertheless they are being prepared in cooperation of various professional associations. Advantage of recommended procedures is known. On the other hand, these procedures can be used against us in case the procedures are not adhered to for any (even good) reason. Within 7 years NPWT has established in Czech Republic in the treatment of surgical patients across all specializations (traumatology, chest surgery, cardio surgery, vascular surgery, abdominal surgery, general surgery) There is a demonstrably lower morbidity and mortality with seriously affected patients suffering from infections at the wound side.Negative pressure wound therapy is used for a wound closure, especially the one that heals badly or is infected. At the moment there are several negative pressure systems at the Czech market. Progress of wound healing consists of: an increased perfusion and thus an active process of healing even from the edges of a defect occurs. A granulated tissue is formed in a wound and there is an evident epithalization at the edges. It is necessary to measure and document a wound according to a protocol every week. The amount of an exudation declines gradually and a colouration can vary from serous up to sanguineous. The NPWT is an excellent method of treatment for open abdomen and abdominal wall defects following surgery. The negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is a standard treatment option of early dehiscent wounds and secondary healing skin defects. Success of treatment depends on Team work and expertise of the medical staff Suitable patient Immediate handling of all problems Tailored treatment for individual patient NWPT represents costs benefit for the patient, medical staff and in its final effect also for the hospital budget
