Při progresi chronického srdečního selhání dochází často k narůstající neschopnosti srdce splňovat metabolické nároky většiny orgánů. Zatímco důsledky akutního srdečního selhání na renální funkce byly v literatuře mnohokrát popsány, komplexní popis dopadu akutního srdečního selhání na jaterní funkce v literatuře stále chybí. V léčbě akutního srdečního selhání můžeme využít hepatoprotektivní účinek levosimendanu, který spočívá pravděpodobně v jeho příznivém hemodynamickém působení podmíněném jeho specificky pozitivně inotropním a vazodilatačním efektem společně s přímým hepatocytárním působením se zvýšením metabolických a adaptačních rezerv hepatocytu.
