Abstract
Spectacle lens production can be divided into three groups – mass or huge series production, small series production and production of individual lens. Spectacle lenses can be manufactured by casting, molding or splinter machining. Splinter machining is most frequent type of spectacle lens production except of so called ready-made lenses, which are usually made by casting. We usually distinguish three types of splinter machining – firstly rough and smooth grinding and polishing, secondly generalized cutting, grinding and polishing and thirdly rough and smooth turning, grinding and polishing. During splinter machining is semi-finished lens brought from store, calculated its back side radius with help of special software, covered by special plastic film and with so called Wood’s metal connected to special holder, which enables to hold tightly lens during the manufacturing. After that technicians have to choose right grinding instrument and use special grinding and polishing pad. Finally is from semi-finished lens removed special holder and lens is signed with special laser instrument. Follows controlling phase of manufacturing and finally lenses are packed into individual transit bags.
