Abstract

Studie je věnována nově identifikovanému dílu pruského královského vyšívače Johanna Franze Josefa Schenelliho (Genelli, Genelly; 1724–1792), které vytvořil pro rezidenci posledního olomouckého biskupa Maxmiliána z Hamiltonu v Kroměříži kolem roku 1770. Vyšívané květinové zátiší na velké krbové zástěně, vytvořené podle obrazu římského barokního malíře nizozemského původu Karla van Vogelaer (1653–1695) je zřejmě jediným dochovaným dílem ve své době proslulého uměleckého řemeslníka, vzdělaného na umělecké akademii v Kodani a působícího na dvorech císařovny Marie Terezie a pruského krále Friedricha II. Cílem studie je kromě upozornění na toto mimořádné uměleckořemeslné dílo především jeho interpretace v širším kontextu dobového kritického hodnocení vyšívačství a proměny role a postavení profesionálních vyšívačů v umělecké hierarchii a praxi na konci 18. století.

Abstract (in English)

The study deals with a newly identified work by the embroiderer to the Prussian King, Johann Franz Josef Schenelli, also Genelli or Genelly (1724–1792), which he created for the residence of the last Bishop of Olomouc, Maximilian of Hamilton, in Kroměříž/Kremsier around the year 1770. This embroidered floral still life on a large fire screen, created after a painting by the Roman Baroque painter of Dutch origin Karel van Vogelaer (1653–1695), appears to be the only work by this artistic craftsman to have been preserved. Schenelli was famous in his day and after receiving his education at the artistic academy in Copenhagen worked at the courts of the Empress Maria Theresa and the Prussian King Friedrich II. in Vienna and Berlin. In addition to drawing attention to this exceptional work of artistic craftsmanship, the main aim of the study is to interpret it in the broader context of critical evaluation of the embroiderer’s art at that time, and the changing role and status of professional embroiderers in the artistic hierarchy and artistic practice at the end of the 18th century.
