Abstract
The text deals with the relation between the Russian state and the Buryat Sangha in the past and in the present. It considers two Buddhist institutions: on the one hand, the phenomenon of the so-call recognized incarnations (Tib. sprul sku, Bur. khubilgan) and on the other hand, the head of the Sangha, Bandido Khambo Lama. The contribution provides the overview of history of the Buryat Sangha and examines in detail the recent phenomenon of the Triad of National Buddhist Jewels. In conclusion it discusses the issue whether specific Buryat Buddhism exists or whether this is a Tibetan form of Buddhism in the territory inhabited by Buryats.
