Abstract
V originále
There was an edifying project “Safety behind the steering wheel - Care of the eyesight” (Bezpečnost za volantem - péče o zrak) realized across the Czech Republic during the spring 2013. The main target was to remember the drivers about the necessity of their good vision and about the importance of the periodic eyesight checkups. On that occasion a free screening controls of basic eyesight functions were provided. The collected data helped us to make a notion of the condition of driver’s vision on the Czech roads. The monocular and binocular visual acuity with full and decreased (25%) contrast was checked and the presence of binocular vision, manifest or latent strabismus and stereopsis were also investigated. Some additional tests were used, if necessary (Amsler’s grid, Ishihara’s colour vision, objective refraction, visual acuity at the near distance), but their results were not statistically analyzed. The gained data were compared with the actual valid standards of roadworthiness of motor vehicles. Thanks to a large number of participants we were able to get a representative sample to estimate the quality of vision of the Czech drivers. Those with marginal or unsatisfactory values were suggested to undergo an examination at an eye care specialist. The campaign raised a positive response not only from citizens - drivers, but also from Czech and foreign news media and professionals as an inspiration for similar activities in theirs countries.
