Abstract

V originále

In the article the relationship and differences between Baltic *Perkúnas and Slavic *Perun7, designating "Thunder God", are analyzed. Both are derivatives of the IE verbal root *per- "to beat, strike". The Baltic theonym is a compound of the type Donnerkeil, where the second component may be interpreted as "stony wedge". The simplification of the Slavic form is explainable as hypocoristic, but it could also be caused by contamination with Slavic *p6rvj6nj6 "first, former", indicating implicitly the role of a 'primeval deity', known also from Baltic, Greek or Indo-Aryan traditions.
