Abstract
Od počátku vzniku železnic v 19. století ovlivňoval stát jejich výstavbu a reguloval jejich provoz – s různou intenzitou, s různými cíli, s různými výsledky. Podíváme-li se na historii železnic očima ekonoma, najdeme mnoho učebnicových příkladů zneužití konkurenčního postavení, deformace tržních vztahů, kartelu, monopolu, síťového efektu a důsledků jeho přecenění, problému fixních nákladů, atd. A téměř za vším najdeme více či méně skryté působení státu. Přednáška založená na komentáři vybraných případových studií pomůže odpovědět na otázku: proč ještě stále jezdíme vlakem, když můžeme jezdit autem a létat?
Abstract (in English)
Since the beginning of the rail transport in the 19th century the state regulated construction of railways and their operation - with varying intensity, with different goals, with different results. There are many examples of abuse competitive position, distortion of market relations, cartels, monopolies, network effects and consequences of a revaluation, the problem of fixed costs, etc. in the history - and we can too often find more or less hidden state action behind. Selected case studies help answer the question: why still we go by train, when we drive a car and fly?
