The present handbook has been compiled as a study material for courses of the historical development of English. It provides a brief survey of the history of the English language. The focus of this handbook is on grammatical and phonological change. Selected texts from the different periods of development have been included as examples illustrating the gradual language change.

Tato skripta byla sestavena jako studijní materiál pro kurzy k historickému vývoji angličtiny. Poskytují stručný přehled historie anglického jazyka. Důraz je kladen na gramatický a fonologický vývoj. Zařazeny jsou též vybrané texty z různých období jako příklady dokumentující postupný vývoj jazyka.
