Abstract
Gymnastics is becoming less popular and it is being often replaced by other physical exercises, which are less demanding for the resources, organization and methods of teaching. The aim of this article is to determine the level of selected gymnastic skills of pupils in primary schools in Brno. Research has been carried out at selected primary schools in Brno. After interview with the teachers about physical education we visited the 7th classes and we assessed student performance of gymnastics skills. Measurement attended 71 boys and 75 girls. For evaluation we used scaling methods with 6 levels. General education program for Basic Education were the base for choosing a gymnastic elements - 4 exercises on floor exercise (forward roll, backward roll, hand balance, cartwheel), 2 exercises on vault (straddle vault, crouch vault), 3 on bar (hip swing, underswing, mill circle), 3 on the balance beam (lever, mill circle, forward roll) and 1 circles (exercises with swinging). In total we had 13 exercises. We recorded both the pupils with technically correct executions and the pupils which were unable to control despite of efforts of teachers. We evaluated the performance of girls and boys using the scale method. Results indicate that level of students´ gymnastics skills is better than level, we expected.
