Abstract |
---|
While it is customary for ESP courses to be based on the analysis of the students’ future needs, course design can be made even more effective by surveying the experience of recent graduates.A group of recent graduates from the Faculty of Law who entered the legal world of work within the past five years were approached and interviewed about their use of legal English in the workplace. Their comments about legal language and skills they listed as most relevant in their context included working with written texts (judgments, case law, contracts), drafting of contracts and correspondence, translating and cooperation with professional translators and speaking skills. The presentation documents some changes in a legal English syllabus and shares materials and activities developed on the basis of such a ‘transferred’ needs analysis survey. |
Abstract (in Czech) |
---|
Tento příspěvek se zabývá konceptem tzv. "transferred needs analysis", tj. analýzy potřeb na základě dotazníkového šetření u absolventů jazykových kurzů, kteří jsou již na základě svých profesních zkušeností schopni adekvátně posoudit přínosnost učebních materiálů. Poskytnuté komentáře o použití jazyka v právnické praxi a o nezbytných jazykových dovednostech zahrnovaly například práci s psaným textem (rozsudky, judikáty, smlouvy), sestavování smluv a korespondence, překlady a spolupráce s profesionálními překladateli a mluvní dovednosti. Tyto byly poté použity při přípravě sylabů inovovaných kurzů. |
