Abstract
Article analyses two expressions of ethno-cultural traditions, folklore traditions fulfil numerous functions in contemporary Czech society, which are connected the everyday culture of their practitioners. As a part of traditional folk culture, they functioned as a dichotomy of a working and festive day within the strict framework of the religious calendar and the rural year. As a society transformed, this framework moved significantly. With the loss of its original functions, many folk traditions ceased to exist. However, there are new roles of folklor and other expressions of traditional folk culture.
