Abstract
In spite of the fact that the majority of Czech students have a solid knowledge of spoken English, being able to communicate without major difficulties in common situations, a big proportion of them still lack confidence in applying the English grammar rules adequately and accurately when discussing and/or writing on academic or professional topics. Based on the needs analysis and feedback from the students, the Language Department at the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Studies has prepared a specialized course of English grammar for the students of humanities covering the major problem areas. The authors compiled the course of different exercises and tasks bearing in mind the necessary focus on topics and issues that are closely related to the students’ fields of studies. Using both traditional and less common methodologies, this course aims at both intermediate and upper-intermediate students.
