Currently there are many possibilities for young people to study in various fields and to get various type of education. Everyone is free to choose the field of st udy. It is essential however to ensure a harmony on the labour market, because low unemployment is a crucial factor of economic growth. In the Czech Republic (and also in the whole EU) there is a problem of discrepancy between education of graduates and la bour market requirements. While companies call for technically educated workers, students are much more interested in humanistic fields. This paper argues that technical knowledge has a great potential for innovation. It is therefore very important to enco urage young people to study technical fields and being interested in rese arch and development. Using statistics, analysis and regional innovation strategies , the paper deals with the problem of disharmony on the labour market , and shows the ways Czech regions use to minimize it. ER -
