Abstract
Purpose: The study deals with the chosen problems of the methodology of comparative physical education. The goal of the text is to contribute to the discourse about the methodological quality in physical education and sport sciences. The author also attempts to show some possible approaches to the process of the comparative research in physical education and sport based on the problem approach methodology. Methods: Apart from the brief theoretical and historical issues of the comparative research in chosen social sciences which stand for the basis of the authors further considerations the text presents some principles of comparative research valid also for the research in physical education and sport. The principles are based on the methodology used in chosen social sciences which use the scientific comparative methodology. Results: The text presents particular steps of the comparative method in physical education and sport research. Conclusions: The final paragraphs deal with some considerations about the role of descriptive and case oriented studies in the physical education and sport research mainly from the problem oriented scientific approach.
