Abstract

Rozvoj racionality a vědeckého poznání byl zvláště v evropském osvícenství spojován s myšlenkou nezadržitelně postupujícího pokroku lidstva. Osvícenství a myšlenka pokroku však přineslo i zneužití technické civilizace a aplikací technologického rozumu. Racionalita a věda jsou však stále základní hodnoty naší evropské kultury a civilizace. Nadčasovost hodnot nespočívá v jejich neměnnosti, v tom, že by měly stále stejný smysl, ale v tom, že trvale tvoří součást našeho hodnotového systému. Překonat negativní důsledky objektivistické a instrumentalistické racionality předpokládá obnovit lidský předpoklad existence a smyslu tohoto světa.

Abstract (in English)

The development of rationality and science during European Enlightenment was associated with the idea of unstoppable progress of mankind. The Enlightenment and the idea of progress, however, also brought the misuse of technologies and the application of technological reason. Rationality and science are, nevertheless, still the fundamental values of European civilization and culture. The timelessness of values does not inhere in their constancy or invariable meaning, but in the fact that they have always been part of our value system. Overcoming the negative consequences of objectivist and instrumental rationality presupposes the restoration of the human assumption of existence and meaning of this world.
