Abstract

The lecture focused on the reflection of the Civil War in American literature in the accounts of participants: soldiers, politicians and orators. Issues and topics explored in details included imagery, individualism, religion, and democracy in selected texts. The importance of the topic of the Great War for 20th century American writers was shortly discussed as well.

Přednáška se zabývala odrazem Občanské války v americké literatuře v konkrétních textech účastníků - vojáka, politika a řečníka. Detailně pojednávala o úloze autorské imaginace a o otázkách individualismu, náboženství a demokracie ve vybraných textech.Do kontextu pak zařadila vybraná díla amerických spisovatelů 20. století na témata spojená s Občanskou válkou.
