The level of the human capital is influenced by the intergenerational transmission. The aim of this paper is to examine the transmission within the group of very talented students. We try to identify who the talented students are, which background they did come from and how the family background influenced them. For fulfilling the aim, we conducted unique survey among the most successful and talented students at secondary schools in the Czech Republic, especially in the South Moravian Region. According to the survey results, most of the talented students came from the complete highly educated families with tradition in their field of interest and long positive attitudes toward accumulating the knowledge. Contrarily, the role of the teachers in the support and guidance is negligible. Our results confirm that there is a clear evidence of human capital intergenerational transmission as well as vertical immobility. For the future economic growth there must be offered a helping hand for the talented children with less educated family background. ER -
