Abstract

V originále

Papers and paper boards are highly versatile materials with various beneficial properties. Their performance characteristics are given also by different types of surface coatings and operations, e.g., pigment coatings, surface sizing, or glossing, which are controlled by the chemistry and topography of paper and paper board surfaces. Different atmospheric pressure plasma techniques have been tested to raise the surface energy of paper products and also functionalizes surfaces. The chapter reviews a current state of the art and opportunities for the use of plasma surface treatment in the coating and conversion of paper products. Preliminary results on the paper surface activation, surface hydrophilization, etc., using a novel low-cost high-speed method for atmospheric pressure in-line plasma treatment of paper surfaces are presented.
