Abstract

Después de haber implantado los primeros cursos de catalán en 1998, y dado el éxito académico obtenido a lo largo de dieciocho anos, la Universidad Masaryk de Brno inauguró, durante el curso 2015-2016, el primer grado universitario en Lengua y Literatura Catalanas de la República Checa. Con más de 40 estudiantes en el primer ano, el grado pretende preparar al alumnado checo y eslovaco para desarrollar tareas vinculadas al mundo de la traducción y del ensenamiento del catalán como lengua extranjera. Se trata, sin duda, de una iniciativa pionera tanto en el ámbito europeo como a nivel mundial. El reto, sin embargo, es doble. Por un lado, hay que conseguir que el alumnado, a quien no se exige ningún conocimiento previo de catalán —pues en la República Checa las posibilidades de aprender dicha lengua fuera de la universidad son casi inexistentes—, obtenga competencias comunicativas equivalentes a un nivel C1-C2 del Marco Europeo Común de Referencia para las lenguas. Y, por el otro, hay que conseguir dotar a este alumnado de conocimientos más o menos profundos sobre lingüística y literatura catalanas, lo que exige capacidad de reflexión sobre dicha lengua y conocimientos lo bastante amplios como para interpretar adecuadamente la producción literaria en catalán. En esta comunicación presentamos cómo se ha gestado un plan de estudios dividido en cuatro áreas principales —aprendizaje de catalán, lingüística catalana, cultura catalana y literatura catalana— y cómo se ha intentado enriquecer mediante la movilidad internacional, la oferta de prácticas profesionales y la oferta de iniciativas que, más allá del ámbito académico propiamente dicho, pretenden proporcionar espacios donde alumnado pueda encontrar contextos donde desarrollar —profesionalmente o a modo de entretenimiento— sus conocimientos sobre la lengua, la literatura y la cultura catalanas.

Abstract (in English)

After having implemented the first courses in Catalan in 1998, and due to the academic success obtained throughout 18 years, Masaryk University inaugurated, during the course 2015-2016, the first university degree in Catalan Language and Literatura in the Czech Republic. More than 40 students joined the degree during its first year. The degree intends to prepare Czech and Slovac students to develop professional activities related to translation and teaching Catalan as a second language. It is, thus, a pioneer initiative in Europe and also in the rest of the world. However, the challenge is big. On the one hand, students who are not asked to have any knowledge on Catalan language and literature before starting the degree have to obtain, in three years, a level equivalent to C1-C2 in the CEFR. And on the other, students must obtain a vast knowledge on Catalan language and literature, so that they can interpret literary productions in Catalan as well as a wide range of linguistic phenomenon. This paper presents how the program of studies was created and how it was divided in four main areas: Catalan language, Catalan linguistics, Catalan culture and Catalan literature, and how it has been enriched through international mobility, professional training and initiatives that go far beyond the university itself.
