Abstract
Teenage classes are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get! Sometimes we have the most wonderful lessons with our teens, and at other times, despite hours of preparation creating fantastic tasks and activities, the lesson flops. The question is, how we can work with, rather than against this particular age group? What can we do with our teaching to maximise engagement? This session begins by questioning whether the mindset of teachers and learners can affect the learning process. We will then look at a variety of ways in which we can motivate and engage learners, whilst showing them tips to increase their autonomy along the way. I don’t have all the answers, and maybe never will, but perhaps by exploring the above, we’ll be able to walk into the classroom better equipped to to enjoy all the chocolates in the box.
