Anotace
Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) was considered to be the cornerstone of the European security for a long period of time. In 2007, Russia suspended its participation in the CFE Treaty and in 2015 it withdrew from the treaty completely. In its time, the CFE Treaty brought about a substantial reduction in the numbers of armaments regulated by the treaty and a transparent verification and notification regime. It deprived both NATO and the Warsaw Pact of the possibility to launch a surprise attack in Europe with a certain chance of success. The Russian withdrawal from the treaty means the termination of a historically unprecedented regime of conventional arms control causes a crucial change in the European security environment. The treaty is pointless without Russian participation, as Russia takes a major part in the overall numbers of the armament limited by the treaty. Without the CFE Treaty, Europe is definitely becoming a less secure place. The implementation of the CFE Treaty meant that no state in Europe had the possibility of conducting a sudden and successful invasion against its neighbours; the end of Russian participation in the treaty gives this option to Russia.
