V článku autor predostiera stručný prehľad dejín využitia normanských žoldnierov v byzantských službách v priebehu 11. storočia. Najprv popisuje prvé kontakty Byzantíncov s týmito vynikajúcimi bojovníkmi v južnej Itálii a potom sa zameriava aj na veliteľov normanských oddielov, ktorými boli Hervé Frangopoulos, Robert Crispin a Roussel z Bailleul.
In English
In present article the author offers short overview of the use of Norman mercenaries in Byzantine service during the 11th century. First he describes the first contacts of the byzantines with these excellent warriors in the South of Italy and later he shifts his attention towards the commanders of Norman mercenary units in Byzantium, which were Herve Frangopoulos, Robert Crispin and Roussel of Bailleul.
