Abstract

V originále

This lecture examines the broader political, social and cultural contexts in which the so-called "counterculture" arose and flourished in the United States between the 1950s and the 1970s. Included in or affiliated with the counterculture were various movements representing different but related critiques of America, the West, war, capitalism, modern life, gender roles, social convention, limited "consciousness," environmental destruction and other matters.
