Abstract (in English)
The research is concerned with people suffering from schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. The aim of this study is to describe the concept of recovery from severe mental illness and to find different influences effecting the recovery process and helping patients to cope with the reality of mental disorder. Recovery in this context does not mean curing or remission of the illness, it refers to deeply personal process of an individual human affected by severe mental illness and struggling with this crucial change of life. Considering the aim of the study is to understand individual experience of recovery process, a qualitative design was chosen. Respondents were interviewed and the obtained interviews were analyzed from the point of view of interpretative phenomenological analysis. This provided the opportunity to emphasize the understanding of individual experience on idiographic level, as well as accenting the meaning of unique personal experience and recovery process. Primal results of the research indicate important domains of the individual narratives such as individual rationalization and meaningful integration of the illness in the personal life story and rebuilding of personal identity.
