Abstract

L’objectif de la contribution est de découvrir les réseaux de diffusion et de réception des livres francais traduits en tcheque au tournant des XIXe et XXe siecle (entre 1890 et 1914). Elle vise notamment a trouver des réponses a des questions suivantes : Dans quel contexte historique, social, politique et culturel se pratiquait la traduction ? Y avait-il une politique éditoriale, un systeme de censure ? Comment était régulée la question des cessions des droits d’auteurs pour les traductions ? Qui étaient les principaux éditeurs tcheques de la littérature francaise ? Quelle part était réservée aux titres traduits du francais sur le marché du livre tcheque et chez les éditeurs particuliers ? Quelle était la structure des auteurs et des oeuvres traduites ? Qui étaient les traducteurs du francais les plus influents, quel était leur profil sociologique et comment ont-ils acquis la connaissance du francais ? Comment mesurer l’intéret des lecteurs: analyse des premieres éditions, des rééditions et des retraductions. Nous allons nous appuyer sur les études publiées, sur l’analyse des catalogues bibliographiques, et les témoignages des principaux acteurs de la traduction (préfaces, mémoires, correspondance).

Abstract (in English)

The objective of the contribution is to discover the networks of diffusion and reception of French books translated into Czech at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (1890 and 1914). We aim to find answers to the following questions: In which historical, social, political and cultural context was the translation practiced? Was there an editorial policy, a system of censorship? How was the assignment of copyright for translations regulated? Who were the main Czech publishers of French literature? What was the part reserved for titles translated from French into the Czech book market and nigh the individual publishers? What was the structure of the authors and translated works? Who were the most influential translators of French literature, what was their sociological profile and how did they acquire the knowledge of French? How to measure the interest of readers: analysis of the first editions, reissues and retranslations. We will rely on published studies, the analysis of bibliographic catalogues, and the testimonies of the main actors in translation (prefaces, memoirs, correspondence).
