Synestezie je sdružení vjemů dvou nebo více tělesných smyslů. Jedná se o vzácný stav, který se vyskytuje u dvou až čtyř procent populace a je až šestkrát častější u žen. Zatímco většina lidí jednotlivé kvality vjemů odlišuje, čili tvar vnímá jako tvar, chuť jako chuť a barvu jako barvu, synestetik může teoreticky spojit libovolné dva smysly dohromady. Je popsáno více než šedesát variant kombinací barvy, chutě, hmatu a zvuku.

Synesthesia is the association of the perceptions of two or more bodily senses. This is a rare condition that occurs in two to four percent of the population and is up to six times more common in women. While most people distinguish individual qualities of perception, ie shape perceives as shape, taste as taste and color as color, synesthetics can theoretically connect any two senses together. More than sixty variations of color, taste, touch and sound combinations are described.
