Abstract

The paper examines the role of memory in identity construction as reflected in fictional and autobiographical texts. Using three examples (Nelly’s Version by Eva Figes, Memories of a Catholic Girlhood by Mary McCarthy, and Montauk by Max Frisch) the paper demonstrates the two-way shaping of memories and identity.

Článek zkoumá význam paměti pro konstrukci identity a reflexe této problematiky ve fikčních a autobiografických textech. Na třech příkladech (Nelly’s Version Evy Figesové, Memories of a Catholic Girlhood Mary McCarthyové a Montauk Maxe Frische) ukazuje oboustranný vliv vzpomínek a identity.
