Abstract
Geodiversity, climate, hydrology and historical and recent effects of humans on land-cover in the Czech Republic are briefly described. The aim of this chapter is to provide basic information necessary for understanding current and historical patterns in the distribution of the flora and vegetation in this country, their ecology and dynamics.
