Anotace

The focus of the monograph is on hierarchical systems of lexical items, particularly in scientific terminologies. It includes some of the research outcomes from the dissertation Lexical Hierarchies in the Scientific Terminology, which are supplemented with a broadly conceived introduction to the typology of lexical and semantic relations and to a variety of branching and non-branching hierarchies, proportional series and other types of lexical configurations. It analyses the principles of formation of terminological classificatory hierarchies and identifies sense relations between items at superordinate and subordinate levels, as well as between those at the same level. Analogous hierarchies have been compared in English, Czech and Latin terminologies. Although a virtually identical objective reality is reflected in scientific terminological hierarchies, specific morphological and onomatological properties of different languages influence considerably the consistency and transparency of corresponding lexical hierarchies. The analytic section of the monograph draws a comparison between formation of terms in English and in Czech, emphasising differences between taxonomies and meronomies, superordinate and subordinate taxonomic levels, and hierarchies in natural and social sciences.

Anotace česky

Monografie se zabývá hierarchickými systémy lexikálních jednotek, zejména ve vědeckých terminologiích. Zahrnuje některé výsledky výzkumu z dřívější disertační práce Lexical Hierarchies in the Scientific Terminology (Lexikální hierarchie ve vědecké terminologii), které jsou doplněny široce pojatým úvodem do typologie lexikálních a sémantických vztahů a přehledem různých větvených i nevětvených hierarchií, sérií a jiných lexikálních konfigurací. Práce analyzuje zásady tvorby terminologických klasifikačních hierarchií a identifikuje sémantické vztahy mezi nadřazenými a podřazenými termíny i mezi termíny na stejné hierarchické úrovni. Jsou porovnávány analogické hierarchie anglické, české a latinské. Ačkoli vědecké hierarchie odrážejí v podstatě totožnou objektivní realitu, konkrétní morfologické a onomatologické vlastnosti různých jazyků významně ovlivňují soustavný a transparentní charakter výsledných lexikálních hierarchií. Analytická část monografie srovnává tvoření termínů v angličtině a češtině, přičemž zdůrazňuje rozdíly mezi hierarchiemi taxonomickými a meronomickými, jejich vyššími a nižšími úrovněmi a mezi terminologickými hierarchiemi v přírodních a společenských vědách.
