Chapter gives information on experimental study of phase transformations, microstructure and thermodynamic properties of metallic materials and its link with computational thermodynamics and calculation of phase diagrams by the CALPHAD method, the approach enabling a prediction of application potential of materials. Steels and Ni-based superalloys are discussed as the example.
