Abstract
The lecture will invite participants to look at the role-set compositions of older persons as complex systems with varying levels of importance for different actors and policies. In the first part of the lecture, we will set the stage by defining the basic sociological terms related to role theories. We will then proceed to look at selected results of my own research in this area in order to see one example of how policy evaluation can be empirically challenged. After the lecture, the participants will be able to critically assess both policy tools and policy evaluation tools from a role theory point of view. Participants will be invited to look at their own empirical material thru the lens of a role theory and life transitions point of view.
