One of the unifying characteristics of Modern Paganism in all of its forms is reverence of nature, that is viewed as sacred. However, there are two main branches of Modern Paganism – one of them, often called “Revivalism,” grows from rather eco-feminist and esoteric roots, while the other one, usually called “Reconstructionism” or “Ethnic Paganism,” grows from rather nationalist tendencies. Do they view the sacredness of Nature the same? This paper – based on ethnographic fieldwork – explores the differences in understanding of Nature between these two main branches of Modern Paganism, its roots and manifestations. ER -
