Abstract

The book presents a summary of author's selected studies and analysis in the field of South Slavonic studies, but above all on questions related to Serbo-Croatian and the languages in which it transformed after 1990 (Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, Montenegrin). The chapters are mainly sociolinguistically focused. The author tried to make organic sequence of the chapters, so the book started with general overview of South Slavonic languages, their classification, grammar, but also the graphical systems used in the South Slavonic area. In the next chapters the author pays attention mainly to the problematic elements in the history and the present relations between the particular "Serbo-Croatian" nations and their languages. Sociolinguistic issues are intertwined with language didactics, university philology studies, translatology, constitution and relevant legal norms and, last but not least, politics. The last, eighth chapter is devoted to the book Language and Nationalism, which precisely reveals the mechanisms of politicizing language and linguistic research.

Abstract (in Czech)

Monografie představuje souhrn autorových vybraných studií a analýz z oblasti jihoslovanských jazyků, přesněji srbochorvatštiny, resp. srbštiny, chorvatštiny, bosenštiny a černohorštiny (tj. jazyků, jež vznikly po roce 1990 a nahradily srbochorvatštinu). Kapitoly jsou zaměřeny především sociolingvisticky. Kniha začíná všeobecným přehledem o jihoslovanských jazycích, jejich klasifikací, mluvnicí, ale i grafickými systémy používanými v jihoslovanském prostředí. V dalších kapitolách autor věnuje pozornost především problematickým prvkům v historických i současných vztazích mezi jednotlivými "srbochorvatskými" národy a jejich jazyky. Sociolingvistická perspektiva je doplněná dílčími otázkami z oblasti didaktiky těchto jazyků a jejich univerzitní výuky, translatologie, problematiky ústavního a vůbec právního ukotvení srbochorvatštiny a jejích pokračovatelů a rovněž z oblasti politiky. Poslední kapitola analyzuje knihu Jezik i nacionalizam chorvatské lingvistky Snježany Kordić.
