The present paper explores an innovative strategy of financial sustainability in the Czech nonprofit sector. This strategy is crowdfunding which has so far attracted little scholarly attention in the Czech context. Based on the data from 606 projects stemming from the Czech crowdfunding platform Hithit while using a binary logistic regression the paper aims to analyze the factors that affect the level of a campaign’s overfunding rate and to determine whether these factors are consistent between different forms of project creators, and to determine, whether the structure of successful project creators actually deviates from what one could expect given the structure of the Czech economy. This is enhanced by the analysis of the importance of crowdfunding relative to other funding sources of the nonprofit sector, further related to the extent conjectures or hypotheses about the relative state of development of donation-based and alternative crowdfunding models in relation to nonprofit sustainability.
