Anotace
The chapter deals with the role of militant democracy in countering right wing extremism. The case study of Kotleba’s – People’s Party Our Slovakia has been used to explain selected problems. Historical traditions of militant democratic approaches towards right-wing extremism are outlined, including Karl Loewenstein’s legacy of counter fascist measures from the interwar period. The situation in the Federal Republic of Germany is analysed. Different interests of political scientists and law experts in relation to militant democracy are mentioned. The author describes a conceptual framework for an analysis of the impact of militant democracy on right-wing extremism. He has elaborated three scenarios of development after the ban of political parties and associations: a positive “white scenario” (elimination of right-wing extremism), a grey scenario (rise of right-wing populism instead of right-wing extremism) and two black scenarios (recurrence of a party very similar to that which has been banned and rise of new effective organisational forms). The development and the current state of the LSNS and countermeasures of Slovak militant democracy are analysed, however, the process of a possible ban of this party still continues.
