Abstract
Abstract (in English)
The aim of the paper is to analyze the shadow motif which is one of the permanent archetypal images in the fiction of Branquinho da Fonseca (1905-1974) and Tomaz de Figueiredo (1902-1970). In the short-stories of these writers, it is treated not only as a description device, suggesting a specific, mysterious atmosphere, but also as an uncanny motif of the double or haunting. Beside a contextual approach, this paper focuses on two homonymous short-stories “A Sombra” (“A shadow”, 1945) by Branquinho da Fonseca and “A Sombra” (“A shadow”, 1934) by Tomaz de Figueiredo.
