Spojovací oblast je rozdělena mnoha stranami a neaktivními kanály. Lidský dopad (usídlení, odlesňování a správa krajiny) se odráží i ve vývoji dna. Procesy vedou k erozi, akumulaci sedimentů ve vodních tocích a změnám ve vegetaci. Jeden z vrcholů osídlení studované oblasti může být zvážen během existence Velkomoravské říše, když osídlení aglomerace se vyvíjely přímo v záplavové oblasti. Oblasti byly intenzivně archeologicky studovány po dlouhou dobu. V kontextu probíhajících klimatických změn a rostoucí intenzity povodní se vztahy mezi klimatem, přírodními podmínkami a fungováním lidských osad dostávají do popředí vědeckého zájmu. Pro rekonstrukci složitého rozvoje lužních lesů byla použita kombinace různých výzkumných metod. Pro přímé určení stratigrafie byl vybudovaný průsečík sedimentů spojujících okraj osídlení (v oblasti tzv. Northern bailey) s nadmořskou výškou písku ("hrúd") a dolním záplavovým stupněm v oblasti předpokládaného paleomedu studována. Byla použita přímá terénní dokumentace a palynologické a sedimentologické studie a metoda 14C datování. Tyto metody byly doplněny metodami dálkového průzkumu: Geofyzika (ERT, DEMP), Lidar. Na jejich základě byl vytvořen digitální reliéfní model (rozloha naměřené plochy 54 000 m2) a mapa anomálií vodivosti. Studie dokumentovala řadu zaniklých koryt řek (řadu fluviálních bodových tyčí) různého věku na severním okraji Pohansku. Jejich stratigrafická poloha dokazuje stav, kdy aktivní kanál erodoval okraj archeologického naleziště. Sedimenty uložené v předchozích obdobích byly zničeny erozí v tomto prostoru. Zhoršení záplav se vyskytlo v 14.-16. Století. Výsledky analýzy pylu naznačují přítomnost mozaice zalesněné a otevřené krajiny mezofilních aluviálních lesů a otevřených ploch. Bezprostřední blízkost sedimentárního území nebyla v té době příliš ovlivněna zemědělskou činností. Ve srovnání s palynospectrou z sedimentů Velkomoravské osady byla intenzita odlesňování a podíl antropogenních ukazatelů výrazně nižší. ER -
