Abstract
V originále
After the emergence of desktop computers, laptops and smartphones, the iPad (or any other tablet) represents one of the newest technology conveniences that teachers can utilize for their work. Tablets in general have been around for only about three years; their popularity, however, has climbed quite high among teachers at all levels of the educational system. Still, a question arises whether teachers can truly exploit all the different possibilities that tablets could mean for their practices, or whether the devices are mostly used for rather basic procedures. Recently, a growing number of teachers have started using iPads and other tablets for the benefits of quick internet and email access, time and work management, travel conveniences etc. For teachers and lecturers, however, the range of possible applications of the iPad goes much beyond the most common uses. Quite interestingly, the iPad offers a number of apps which make it quick and easy to prepare appealing study materials, learning clips, and educational videos recycling whatever the teacher has already available, such as old presentations, pictures and images, texts, etc. The new materials can then be easily shared with students prior to class and save some more time for practical tasks, group work and revision, in accordance with the flipped model of learning management. This discovery demo session will focus on creating various study materials for second language learning utilizing learning clips and video tutorials to guide and motivate students. Such materials tend to be regarded as more effective (using the multisensory approach to learning languages) as well as more engaging building on the direct connection with the teacher and real-life experience. While many professionals may doubt the outcomes of such endeavours, the results when combined with a skillful approach are surprisingly good. Still, despite the quality of the iPad itself as a capture tool, some additional hardware as well as suitable choice of apps is needed, so that the resulting video materials may really be beneficial for educational use.
