Abstract
Cross-correlation is a measurement of the linear dynamic dependence between the two time series for different values of the lag. We include cross-correlations in brain signal averaging to obtain ERP curves to study processes underlying mental rotation and discuss the application of cross-correlation in exploration of a (a)symmetry between left and right cerebral hemispheres. The ERPs were obtained as arithmetic average of the signal from repeated trials. The signal were measured by EEG with 61 electrodes from 27 healthy volunteers during an experiment. The experiment consist of visual stimuli included 10 rotated letters displayed in either canonical or mirror-reversed format in random order. The subject’s task was to decide whether the stimulus was presented in one of the two formats. Data pre-processing and statistical analyses were performed in the EEGLAB toolbox, MATLAB and R.
