Abstract

Kniha se skládá ze třinácti tematických esejí z oblasti kognitivní a sociální psychologie i dalších příbuzných vědeckých disciplín. Vzhledem ke své populárně-naučné formě je publikace vhodná nejenom pro studenty a odborníky z oblasti psychologie, ale i pro širokou laickou veřejnost. Autor ve své práci představuje originální a zajímavé psychologické fenomény, které v mnoha ohledech reflektují aktuální celospolečenská témata, přičemž se opírá o početnou zásobu odborných publikací. Čtenář se v knize dočte o Forerově efektu, jenž vysvětluje lidskou tendenci věřit horoskopům, i o fenoménech snažících se pochopit válečná zvěrstva minulého století, jako byl např. holocaust. V dalších částech se čtenář dozví zajímavé informace o podstatě lidského altruismu, o kvantovém vědomí a duši i o tom, proč doopravdy nemá cenu hádat se s hlupákem. V neposlední řadě autor v knize vysvětluje, proč lidé podvádějí, proč se postupně v celospolečenských debatách radikalizují jejich názory, a nabízí řešení, jak tomuto trendu zabránit.

Abstract (in English)

The book you are holding contains thirteen thematic essays introducing intriguing topics of cognitive and social psychology and other related disciplines. Because of its popular-science form this publication is suitable not only for psychology students and experts, but also for the general public. In his work the author presents original and interesting psychological phenomena reflecting current society-wide topics in many aspects, while being based on an extensive range of specialist publications. The reader will learn about the Forer effect, which explains people’s tendency to believe in horoscopes, and about phenomena trying to understand war atrocities in the last century, such as the Holocaust. In following chapters, readers will find interesting information about for instance the human altruism, the quantum consciousness and the soul, and the reasons why there is really no point in arguing with a fool. Finally, the author explains why people cheat, why their opinions gradually become radicalized in society-wide debates, and also how this trend can be prevented.
