Abstract

Předmětem recenze je dílo Historia pravdivá Jana Augusty a Jakuba Bílka. Autor v něm zachycuje období kolem poloviny 16. století, kdy byli členové Jednoty bratrské – přátelé Jan Augusta a Jakub Bílek – za svou víru vězněni a mučeni. Čtenáři text umožňuje nahlédnout do komplikovaného období, a to z bezprostředního pohledu obou protagonistů, již se snaží obhájit své vyznání a opustit křivoklátský žalář. Čeští bratři musí bojovat na třech frontách: s představiteli katolické církve, s utrakvisty, ale i s dalšími členy Jednoty bratrské. Bílkovy pasáže mají spíše charakter memoárů, jsou však ozvláštňovány beletrizačními prvky; texty spojené s Janem Augustou nám pak dávají nahlédnout do propracovaných rétorických postupů, jež čeští bratři využívali při své obhajobě.

Abstract (in English)

The subject of the review is The true History by Jan Augusta and Jakub Bilek. The author depicts the period around the middle of the 16th century, when members of the Unity of Brethren – friends Jan Augusta and Jakub Bilek – were imprisoned and tortured for their faith. The text allows the reader to look into a complicated period of history from the immediate point of view of both protagonists who are trying to defend their religion and leave the Krivoklat’s prison. The Czech brothers must fight on three fronts: against representatives of the Catholic Church, Utraquists, but also against other members of the Unity of the Brethren. Bilek's passages are rather memoirs, but he also implies some fiction procedures into his work; the texts associated with Jan Augusta give us an insight into the elaborate rhetorical techniques that the Czech brothers used in their defense.
