Abstract
This paper deals with the work of the Czech aesthetician and theaotrologist Jiří Veltruský (1919–1994) focusing specifically on his work on drama and semiotics of theatre. It analyzes the author’s view of the theatrological concept of drama, developed in the works of Otakar Hostinský and Otakar Zich at the beginning of the 20th century. The paper emphasizes that Veltruský’s literary concept of drama originated in structuralist literary theory, particularly visible in his studies Dramatic Text as a Component of Theatre and Drama as literature. The paper concludes by focusing on an analysis of the value of Veltruský’s concept of dramatic text in contemporary theory of drama and theatre.
