Abstract

Professional vision, albeit a well-researched concept, has mostly been researched as professional vision on action, i.e. not in the act of actual teaching. Modern technologies, such as eye-tracking, allow us to explore also professional vision in action, i.e. when teachers actually teach (e.g. Cortina et al., 2015). This, however, bids the question how professional vision on action and in action differ. Our study aims to explore this using two methods of eye-tracking: we asked teachers to wear SMI 60 Hz eye-tracking glasses (ETG) during instruction. Later, sequences from a video tape of the same instruction (camera aimed at students) were replayed to the same teachers and their eye-movements were monitored (RED 250 mobile 250 Hz – remote ET). They were also asked to comment on the videos. Bearing in mind that these two viewpoints are very different, we opted for an in-depth analysis of the gaze replays from ETG and remote ET (concurrent viewing). This analysis takes into account the timeline of the video, the context, the events, and also the teacher’s comments.

Profesní vidění, i když dobře prozkoumaná koncepce, byla většinou zkoumána jako profesní vidění o akci (on action), tj. nikoli počas skutečné výuky. Moderní technologie, jako je sledování pohybu očí, nám umožňují zkoumat také profesní vidění v akci (in action), tj. když učitelé skutečně vyučují (např. Cortina et al., 2015). To však nabízí otázku, jak se liší profesní vidění on a in action. Naše studie si klade za cíl to prozkoumat pomocí dvou metod sledování pohybu očí: požádali jsme učitele, aby během výuky používali brýle pro sledování pohybu očí SMI 60 Hz (ETG). Později byly sekvence z videokazety stejné instrukce (kamera zaměřená na studenty) přehrány stejným učitelům a jejich pohyb očí byl monitorován (RED 250 mobilní 250 Hz - remote ET). Byli také požádáni, aby se k videím vyjádřili. Vzhledem k tomu, že tyto dva pohledy jsou velmi odlišné, rozhodli jsme se pro hloubkovou analýzu opakovaných pohledů z ETG a remote ET (souběžné prohlížení). Tato analýza zohledňuje časovou osu videa, kontext, události a také komentáře učitele.
