Abstract

Volnou konkurenci považují teoretičtí ekonomové za nezbytný předpoklad efektivního fungování hospodářství, protože přispívá k minimalizaci nákladů a maximalizaci užitku. V praxi se však tyto pozitivní efekty neprojevují vždy přímočaře a jednoduše - čím složitější je struktura určitého odvětví, tím komplikovanější je účinek konkurence. Příspěvek se zabývá analýzou účinků konkurence ve velmi specifickém odvětví osobní železniční dopravy. Na základě empirických zkušeností identifikuje pozitivní a negativní důsledky konkurence, hledá příčiny negativních důsledků a navrhuje jejich řešení.

Abstract (in English)

Theoretic economists consider free competition to be a prerequisite for the efficient functioning of the economy, since it contributes to minimize costs and maximize benefits. In practice, however, these the positive effects are not always straightforward and simple - the more complex the structure of a particular sector, the more complicated the effect of competition. The presentation deals with the analysis of the effects of competition in a very specific sector of rail passenger transport. Based on empirical evidence, it identifies the positive and negative consequences of competition, looks for the causes of negative consequences and suggests solutions.
