Abstract |
---|
Diplomatic relations between Byzantium and nomadic peoples of the steppes were intense and complex. During the 11th century to most prominent among the nomads were the Pechenegs and later the Cumans. The Byzantines sought to maintain freindly and peaceful contacts with these two peoples, because otherwise the territories of the Byzantine empire in the Balkans were in danger. Friendly terms also enabled the Byzantines to create auxiliary units from Pechenegs and Cumans and increase the strength of the Byzantine army. |

Diplomatické vzťahy medzi Byzantskou ríšou a nomádmi zo stepi boli intenzívne a komplexné. V priebehu 11. storočia mali medzi nomádmi najvýznamnejšiu pozíciu najprv Pečenehovia a potom Kumáni. |
