Abstract

The Student Scientific Conference on Genetically Modified Organisms is intended both for pre-graduate and post-graduate students who use genetically modified material in the framework of their laboratory work and research activities. This conference brings together students of molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, agrobiology, medical biology and similar fields, and enables them to share their research results, improve communication skills and establish useful contacts for prospective cooperation. The communications are divided into separate sessions and within each session, a competition for best presentation and poster takes place. Preferred language of the conference is English; however, the contributions in Czech or Slovak are also acceptable. Simultaneously to the conference, a satellite meeting called “GMO – myths and legends” is taking place, comprising a series of public lectures presented by experts from the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. The aim of this meeting is to increase the general knowledge on genetically modified organisms among interested non-specialists. Thus, the conference aims to provide a unique bridge between the highly-specialized scientific programme and lectures for the public presented by experts in the field.

Studentská vědecká konference pro studenty pracující s geneticky modifikovanými organizmy je určena pro pregraduální i postgraduální studenty, kteří ke své práci v laboratoři využívají geneticky modifikované organizmy. Konference se mohou zúčastnit studenti molekulární biologie, genomiky, proteomiky, agrobiologie, lékařské biologie a podobných oborů, kteří se zde mohou podělit o své vědecké výsledky, zdokonalit prezetační dovednosti a navázat užitečné kontakty k budoucí spolupráci. Přednášky jsou rozděleny do sekcí a v rámci každé sekce proběhne soutěž o nejlepší prezentaci či poster. Preferovaným jazykem konference je angličtina, příspěvky v češtině jsou také akceptovatelné. Souběžně s konferencí bude probíhat přednáškový cyklus pro širokou veřejnost s názvem GMO – Mýty a legendy. Cílem tohoto cyklu je zvýšit obecné povědomí o geneticky modifikovaných organizmech a uvést na pravou míru nepravdy a polopravdy, které se v současné době stále častěji objevují v médiích. Tato konference je unikátním spojením vysoce specializované vědecké konference s přednáškovým cyklem pro laickou veřejnost, které budou prezentovány experty na problematiku.
