Abstract
The lecture summarises and comments upon own research findings related to the area of psychology of hope. It looks at the content and role of hope among various population groups such as children, adults, elderly, homeless people, and patients. There is evidence that not only does hope have an important effect on subjective well-being in everyday life, but that it also acts as a significant protective factor during life crises. For this reason, we also discuss the role of hope in the context of depression, serious ilness, and coping with traumatic events. Due to the significant practical implications of the phenomenon of hope, the final part of the lecture briefly addresses the resources of hope and hope-enhancing interventions.
