Abstract
The lecture summarises own research findings related to the area of psychology of hope and.health psychology. It looks at the role of hope among various population groups including patients with chronical diseases, and dying persons. There is evidence that not only does hope have a significant effect on subjective well-being among healthy people and is closely related to their health-related behaviour, but that it also acts as protective factor during difficult life situations. For this reason, we also discuss the role of hope in the context of illness and the end-of-life care. The final part of the lecture briefly addresses the hope-enhancing interventions for patients.
