Abstract

Příspěvek vychází z analýzy 393 dostupných textů dedikací českojazyčných tisků, které vznikly v rozmezí let 1547-1600. Upozorňujeme na zvyklosti spojené s dedikováním. Předně to byl osobní kontakt mezi dedikátorem a dedikantem. Dedikátor si vybíral vysoce postavenou osobnost či spřízněnou osobnost, které konvenoval obsah knihy a z něhož se v symbolické rovině stával ochránce vydaného díla. Ukázali jsme na důležitou provázanost literárního mecenátu se vzdělanostním mecenátem a komu byla českojazyčná kniha určena. Z narážek a zmínek lze vyvodit, že podstatná část české čtenářské veřejnosti byla determinována svou neschopností číst v jiném jazyce než svém rodném. Snahy některých intelektuálů, kteří byli nakloněni vzdělávání těchto čtenářů, však troskotaly na malém zájmu samotných intelektuálních elit se do takové činnosti zapojit. Z výzkumu dále vyplývá, že nelze operovat s dřívějším náhledem na osobu dedikanta a automaticky ho prohlásit za mecenáše či bibliofila.

Abstract (in English)

The paper is based on an analysis of 393 available texts of dedications in Czech-language publications written in the period between 1547-1600. We pinpoint the customs and habits associated with making dedications. Primarily, this was a personal contact between the dedicator and the dedicatee. The dedicator usually chose a high-ranking personality or a related personality towards whom he conveyed the contents of the book and thereby symbolically made him a protector of the published work. We have shown an important link between the literary patronage and the intellectual patronage and for whom the Czech-language book was intended. From the allusions and references made, it can be deduced that a substantial part of the Czech reading public was determined by their inability to read in a language other than their mother tongue. The efforts of some intellectuals, who were inclined to educate these readers, though ran up against the little interest of the intellectual elites themselves to engage in such activities. Our research also shows that it is not possible to work with the earlier perception of a person to whom the work was dedicated and automatically proclaim them a patron or bibliophile.
